was an undergraduate student at The Johns Hopkins University during the years
1891 to 1893. The notes were taken in separate classes but are bound in one
volume. Included are notes from lectures given by Dr. Ira Remsen in Chemistry,
February 1892 to May 1892. Also included are notes from a Biology Course,
Laboratory Work, October 1891 to December 1892, taught by Drs. Henry Newell
Martin, William Keith Brooks, Ethan Allen Andrews, and George Peter Dreyer.
Less extensive notes are from a Classics course on Schiller, William Tell which
was taught by Dr. Marion Dexter Learned in 1891. <lb/><lb/> The Chemistry notes
describe organic reactions, preparation of compounds and discussions of
carbohydrates and acid groups. The Biology notes detail classifications and
physiology of various species and include diagrams and drawings. The pages are

<p>The manuscript was given as a gift to the Library in 1963 by the
Department of Orthodontics, College of Dentistry, University of Illinois.
Frederick B. Noyes probably retained possession of his notebooks while he was
part of the faculty of the College of Dentistry. Apparently the manuscript
remained in the possession of the University of Illinois after Noyes' death in
1961 and was later donated to the Library. </p>
